Assurance of Learning
Structured Weekly Session
Study material covering theoretical concepts is provided every week. In the lecture, the mathematical concepts are explained and example problems are worked to apply the concepts. The course develops competencies for year 9 and year 10 mathematics and lays a strong foundation for HSC advanced mathematics and Extension course. Workshop is an interactive and collaborative part of the weekly program that aims to develop problem solving, critical thinking and reflective thinking enabling the students to consolidate the knowledge gained in the lecture. Following the workshop, a tutorial is conducted for assessing each student’s independent learning outcomes.
Regular homework is an integral part of this course. Homework provides independent learning opportunity. This maximises students’ progress and builds confidence in the school assessment tasks. Homework booklet is marked and feedback is regularly provided to students. There is always an adequate opportunity to clarify any difficulties.
At the completion of every topic, there is a revision examination. Parents receive a detailed feedback of their child’s performance.
There is a more formal revision examination held in the last week for all topics covered during any term. This exam is held under exam style conditions to develop exam management confidence. This exam is strictly marked to provide feedback to students and their parents to identify areas for improvement.
